One Day Floors Trainers
Joe Sheehan, Steve Conklin, David Owens and Tim Frazier conducted an
ODF Certification Class of fifteen contractors at Mike Murray’s
Decorative Concrete Supply facility in Shawnee,
Kansas November 14th and 15th.
The class focused on
One Day Floor's Polyaspartic Floor System.
After introductions two hours of classroom time was allocated to the Prep Perfect system followed by each class member working with the media systems of ODF Chips and 3M Colorquartz. The work was done on large sample boards where each student experienced the ease with which the ODF Pigment Pack mixed into the ODF Clear coats for translucent and opaque finishes and how to broadcast quartz and chip floors all creating a durable and easy to maintain non slip floor system.
The second day began with a review of the first day’s experience. The class then learned how the Prep Perfect polyaspartic system with recent modifications to the tooling has revolutionized concrete floor surface preparation for the coatings industry.
The new ODF Prep Perfect Equipment Package: the grinder; and the tooling (diamonds on the bottom of the machine and quick change adapter plate) make it possible for the ODF prep machine to double the
production of ordinary grinders. This technological breakthrough takes out the biggest variable in the concrete floor coatings industry which is, “How much time will it take to get ready for the coating”? If the equipment is not properly matched to the tooling and the tooling not well matched to the specific concrete surface will be a severe drop in production. This wasted time and money has been the frustration of every floor coating installer. He is torn between reaching the profile mandated by the manufacturer and his desire to save time and putting down the floor. Many times he proceeds with the floor coating hoping that everything will turn out right and he won’t get the phone call every contractor hates to hear, “You need to come out here and take a look at this floor”.
The ODF system levels the playing field. The equipment and the tooling make it possible to stay on schedule, under budget and with guaranteed results. The ODF prep grinder and the newly designed tooling were put to the test at Murray Decorative Concrete Supply’s training facility.
The commercial floor space used for the Murray ODF class was a particularly challenging floor because Mike Murray had used the floor in numerous decorative concrete training classes over several years. The 500 SF space
had been colored with every possible combination of stains imaginable and sealed with a similar variety of top coats and even wax on top of all that, not to mention an extremely hard burnished concrete slab.
Most ODF contractors have normal garage floors “chipped in” by lunch time with their standard equipment. Standard equipment on this floor could have taken six or eight hours. This new combination of grinder modification and tooling cut this time in half.
The temperature of the concrete substrate was 43 degrees. The ambient temperature was 54 degrees and the humidity was 28%. Because polyaspartic floor coatings are moisture cured high humidity and warm temperatures cause faster curing than the cool, dry conditions like we had on this day.
We began grinding the floor at 10:30 in the morning of Day Two after discussing sales and marketing strategy. By 7:00 PM we had put the final coat of sealer on the 500 SF space. If the concrete had been of normal hardness and not stained, sealed and waxed it may have been completed by 4:00 or 5:00 making for a very comfortable day.
The
One Day Floors Prep Perfect Equipment Package stands heads and shoulders above any other floor
coating system in its price range. With One Day Floors you get the most durable top coat AND the fasted prep equipment available anywhere. You can take that to the bank!
